Tamil Nadu begins preliminary work to convert unused Chettinad Airport into aviation hub.

The Tamil Nadu government has initiated preliminary works to convert the unused Chettinad Airport into an aviation hub, aimed at expanding the State’s aviation and aerospace ecosystem.

The State has floated a tender seeking private participation for the development of infrastructure under the proposed Chettinadu Aeronadu Aviation Hub. The move is part of efforts to attract investment and promote aviation-related activities in the region.

Chettinad Airport, also known as Karaikudi–Kanadukathan Airport, is located in Karaikudi taluk of Sivaganga district. According to sources, the government is considering making the airstrip available for Flying Training Organisations (FTOs) as well as for drone testing and related activities.
