Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran provided insights into Tata Sons' entry into semiconductor manufacturing on Wednesday, revealing that negotiations for a semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat, are in the final stages. The project is expected to commence in 2024, showcasing Tata Sons' commitment to cutting-edge technology and manufacturing.
Chandrasekaran emphasized the significance of Gujarat for the Tata Group, tracing its presence in the state back to 1939 with Tata Chemicals. The relationship has since flourished, with 21 Tata Group companies currently maintaining a robust presence in Gujarat, employing over 50,000 individuals and contributing significantly to the state's employment landscape.
Highlighting the impact of eco-friendly development initiatives in Gujarat, Chandrasekaran noted the catalyzation of environmental progress and remarkable social advancements. He praised Gujarat as the gateway to India's future, standing as a testament to the success of sustainable development.
Chandrasekaran underscored the pivotal role of Sanand in Tata's electric vehicle (EV) technology endeavors, highlighting its evolution into a central hub for EV initiatives. Addressing the growing demand for electric vehicles, he mentioned plans to expand manufacturing capacities to meet market needs.
Providing updates on Tata Sons' diverse portfolio, Chandrasekaran announced the commencement of C295 defense aircraft production in Baroda, with plans to extend to Dholera. He also revealed plans to start the construction of a massive 20-gigawatt battery storage factory in Gujarat within the next couple of months. This strategic initiative aims to strengthen Tata's presence in the renewable energy sector and contribute to India's focus on sustainable power solutions. The upcoming facility is expected to play a pivotal role in meeting the escalating demand for energy storage solutions in alignment with the nation's commitment to clean and green technologies.
