"Tata signals a major shift toward high-tech infrastructure with a proposed $11 billion AI Innovation City in Maharashtra."

The Tata Group plans to invest $11 billion to develop a world-class “Innovation City” near the new Navi Mumbai International Airport, aiming to leverage India’s ambitions in artificial intelligence and semiconductor services.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, speaking to ANI on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday, said international investors are showing strong interest in participating in the project. The investment will include the development of a data center as part of the city’s infrastructure.

Maharashtra accounts for over 10% of India’s gross domestic product and is home to Mumbai, the financial capital, which hosts major companies including Reliance Industries Ltd. and the Tata Group, India’s two main stock markets, and the Hindi film industry. Despite this economic strength, the state faces high unemployment and is pursuing an ambitious $30 billion plan to revamp Mumbai’s infrastructure under the Bharatiya Janata Party government.
