Tebma Shipyards to expand in South

Visakhapatnam: Tebma Shipyards, a Chennai-based company, is planning to expand its operations in the South. It is looking for an opportunity to invest in a project in Andhra Pradesh, either at Visakhapatnam or some other coastal town.

The company had recently delivered two survey launches to DCI, built at a cost of Rs 16.9 crore. Tebma specialises in in-house designing and construction of offshore supply vessels, dredgers, tugs, product carriers, floating cranes, barges and production platforms.

Shipbuilding complex
The company had a shipbuilding complex at Malpe and block builder facility at Hangarkatte and a pipe shop at Barkur besides a shipyard at Udupi. The unit in Chennai builds small dredgers and survey vessels. It is now setting up facilities in Gujarat and West Bengal.

Tebma was building 10 big, sophisticated offshore vessels a year. Its turnover was Rs 350 crore last year and this year, it would be around Rs 400 crore or so.

The company had orders worth Rs 1,200 crore up to early 2011.
