Tech Mahindra gets $2.5-mn BTC deal

Mumbai: Telecom solutions major Tech Mahindra has bagged a $2.5 million deal to provide end to end systems integration services to the Botswana Tele-Communications (BTC), a state owned communications major of Botswana.

This deal could potentially go up to $10 million over the next five years, as the company intends to provide converged solutions (for mobile, internet and fixed telephony) in its next phase of engagement with BTC, said Mr Krishna Gopal, Vice-President, MEASARC Sales & Global Alliances of Tech Mahindra said.

As part of the deal, Tech Mahindra will support BeMobile, BTC`s greenfield mobile telephony project, said Mr Gopal. For Tech Mahindra, which services a couple of small deals in Africa, the Botswana engagement will be its first foray in that country.

Servicing telecom clients in mainland Africa is an interesting proposition for Indian IT companies as they are able gets better margins on their engagements as compared to Indian domestic business.

Most African countries offer higher average revenue per user to telecom companies.
