"Telangana earmarks ₹4,000 crore to fast-track Nalgonda’s Smart City development."

Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy recently said Nalgonda would be developed as a Smart City by leveraging its newly acquired status as a municipal corporation and undertaking large-scale infrastructure expansion on par with Hyderabad.

The minister was addressing a gathering after laying foundation stones for development works worth ₹18.70 crore at the Nalgonda Municipal Corporation. He said nearly ₹2,000 crore had already been spent on the town’s development over the past two years and added that the State government was prepared to mobilise an additional ₹2,000 crore, if required, to meet the growing aspirations of the people.

Komatireddy thanked Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for upgrading Nalgonda into a municipal corporation, noting that the move would enable direct central funding and faster execution of urban development projects. He outlined several major infrastructure initiatives currently underway in the town.

Under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, underground drainage works and the construction of a new sewage treatment plant are being taken up at a cost of ₹216 crore. The drinking water supply is being strengthened with an investment of ₹56.75 crore, including the construction of 12 new water tanks and associated pipeline networks.

Internal roads and drainage works are progressing with ₹53 crore from Telangana Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TUFIDC) funds, while ₹109 crore from State Development Fund (SDF) allocations is being used for flood canals, cremation grounds and internal roads.

The minister said major road projects were also in progress, including a ₹545-crore bypass road, roads and drains from Panagallu Chaya Someshwara Temple to SLBC Colony at a cost of ₹565 crore, and the SLBC Medical College–Addanki road project costing ₹260 crore. He added that several other BT and double-lane road projects were nearing completion, with many having crossed the 70 per cent completion mark.
