Three key railway stations in Telangana – Begumpet in Hyderabad, Karimnagar, and Warangal – have been officially developed as "Amrit Stations" and are poised for inauguration on May 22, alongside 100 other stations across the country. These upgrades fall under the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

Begumpet Railway Station Transformation
The Begumpet Railway Station, a crucial hub in the twin cities, has undergone a significant redevelopment with an investment of ₹26.55 crore. This station alone caters to approximately 15,000 rail users and handles around 100 trains daily. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for these redevelopment works in February 2024.
Key enhancements at Begumpet include:

- Improved accessibility with Divyangjan facilities, modern toilets.
- A 12-meter foot over bridge equipped with a ramp, two lifts, and four escalators.
- Upgrades to the circulating area, including a new rock garden and a small water fountain.
- Facade lighting and landscaping.
- Additional platform shelters and platform resurfacing.
- Installation of a sewage treatment plant.
Furthermore, plans are underway to develop a second entry at Begumpet station at an additional cost of ₹12 crore, further easing passenger flow.
Upgrades in Karimnagar and Warangal
The Karimnagar railway station has been transformed into an Amrit Station at a cost of ₹25.85 crore. The foundation stone for its redevelopment was laid in August 2023. This station serves around 1,000 rail users daily and accommodates 10 trains.
Similarly, the Warangal Station has seen redevelopment efforts totaling ₹25.41 crore, with its foundation stone laid in February 2024. Warangal is a busier hub, handling approximately 150 trains and a daily footfall of nearly 22,000 rail users.
Under the broader Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, a total of 40 railway stations in the region were identified for development, with an estimated overall cost of around ₹2,750 crore, signifying a major push towards modernizing India's railway infrastructure.
