Trial Run on Railway Line Successful.
Railway Department officials are hopeful of operating more trains again from Coimbatore to Mettupalayam following the successful trial run of a locomotive recently.
Work on electrification of railway tracks from Coimbatore to Mettupalayam began a year back, and was completed recently.
Following line inspection, the trial run of a train engine was carried out from Coimbatore North railway station to Mettupalayam on Saturday.
Following this, railway officials have planned to conduct a trial run by plying a train with four coaches, probably within this week.
According to officials, inspection would be conducted by the Commissioner of Railway Safety to ensure safety of the track for regular operation of trains on the line. 'Following the inspection and certification of line safety, regular train operations is likely to begin,' he added.
The Coimbatore Railway Users Welfare Association, president Jameel Ahmed, said, 'We expect earlier completion of trial run and inspection. We hope that services several of the already existing trains would be extended to Mettupalayam,' he added.
