TS welcomes IT firms to tier-2 cities.
Information Technology companies showed interest in setting up call centres and other outsourcing units in tier-2 and tier-3 cities of Telangana at the national executive committee meeting of Nasscom (National Association of Software and Services Companies) held recently.
State IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao, who gave a presentation at the meeting, said that the government was willing to encourage such projects. “The members had asked us if BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) centres could be set up in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. We have told them that cities like Karimnagar and Warangal are good to start these centres. Due to the outer ring road, the connectivity to these places from Hyderabad is easy.”
Mr. Rao was participating in a media briefing after the meeting at Cyient in Manikonda. He said that industry’s feedback and concerns would be considered while drafting the Telangana industrial policy. “After the industrial policy is out, we will hold IT workshops in the State. We want to involve Nasscom in these workshops,” he said.
Mr. Rao said that he had assured Nasscom members safety and security of women employees. About the task force formed by the government, he said “A task force for safety of women has been formed and they will be travelling to countries like Singapore to study the initiatives there. Based on their report, we will make the necessary reforms for women’s safety.”
He added that the first all-woman police station under Cyberabad police will be functional in the IT corridor within the next 10 days.
