TVS enters tie up with Mahabharat Motors

Kolkata: TVS Motor Co Ltd has entered into a contract manufacturing arrangement with Mahabharat Motors Manufacturing Pvt Ltd whereby TVS motor cycles will be manufactured at the latter’s two-wheeler manufacturing facility that is located on the outskirts of Kolkata.

Mahabharat Motors has been promoted by the Salim Group of Indonesia and Universal Success Ltd. It is setting up a two-wheeler manufacturing facility on the outskirts of Kolkata at an initial investment of $100 million.

Speaking to presspersons here after meeting, in the presence of the West Bengal Chief Minister Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, the Chairman and Managing Director of TVS Motor, Mr Venu Srinivasan said the contract manufacturing arrangement would enable the company to expand its footprint and augment market share in the eastern and north-eastern region. It would also boost exports to Bangladesh.

Mr Srinivasan said one lakh units of the TVS motor cycle would be manufactured here. TVS would help Mahabharat Motors to set up the factory and also provide engineering support. Production would commence from June 2009.

Twenty per cent of TVS’s revenue comes from sales in the eastern and north-eastern region. With a manufacturing presence here, this figure was expected to go up to 25 per cent within the next five years, he said.
