Udupi CSL Secures Tug Construction Orders from Ocean Sparkle

Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL) has secured a new order from its longstanding client, Ocean Sparkle Limited (OSL), for the construction of three ASD (Azimuth Stern Drive) Tugs with 70 T Bollard Pull Power.

The contract was signed by UCSL's CEO, Harikumar A, and OSL's Managing Director and CEO, Hiren Shah.

Previously, UCSL had constructed two 62 T bollard pull ASD tugs for OSL, both of which were delivered ahead of schedule and are now operational at Paradip Port and New Mangalore Port. These new tugs, designed by the renowned Robert Allan Ltd, will be built under the Indian Flag and classified by the Indian Register of Shipping. UCSL is notable for being the first shipyard to contract and construct tugs conforming to ASTDS standards.

Additionally, UCSL had signed contracts with Polestar Maritime Ltd for the construction of two 70 T Bollard Pull ASD tugs. The first vessel has already been delivered ahead of schedule and is now in operation at Deendayal Port, Kandla, while the second vessel is currently under construction at UCSL's yard in Malpe, Karnataka.

Since its revival following the takeover by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) in September 2020, UCSL has made significant progress. Its order book also includes six 3,800 Deadweight Dry Cargo Vessels for Wilson ASA, Norway.

“Both CSL and our subsidiary UCSL are committed to delivering high-quality tugs, emphasizing sustainable solutions to meet the evolving needs of the maritime ecosystem,” stated Madhu Nair, Chairman and Managing Director of CSL and Chairman of UCSL.
