Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Issues ₹150 Crore Tender for East–West Corridor Depot in Lucknow.

Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Issues ₹150 Crore Tender for East–West Corridor Depot in Lucknow.

After recently inviting bids for the elevated stretch between Vasantkunj and Thakurganj, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) on Thursday floated a ₹150 crore tender for the construction of an advanced depot at Vasantkunj for the upcoming East–West corridor of the Lucknow Metro.

The depot, estimated to cost ₹150 crore, will serve as a key facility for train maintenance, inspection and stabling. Modelled on the existing Transport Nagar depot, it will incorporate modern, technology-driven systems to ensure safe and efficient metro operations.

The facility will house equipment such as a pit wheel lathe machine for wheel profile maintenance, fully automatic synchronised pit and mobile jack machines for lifting operations, bogie turn tables, automatic train washing plants, electric bogie shunters, and re-railing and rescue vehicles. These systems are aimed at ensuring that trains operating on the East–West Corridor remain reliable and operationally fit.

Environmental sustainability will be central to the depot’s design. Similar to the North–South corridor depot, it will feature solar power generation units, zero-discharge technology, dual plumbing systems, a sewage treatment plant (STP), an effluent treatment plant (ETP), and a combined STP-ETP unit to optimise land and energy use. A comprehensive water storage system will also be developed to support daily operations and emergency needs.

UPMRC managing director Sushil Kumar said that the floating of the second major tender and the acceleration of pre-construction activities reflect steady progress towards implementation of the corridor.

The 12-km East–West Corridor will run from Charbagh to Vasantkunj in Lucknow. It will comprise seven underground stations between Charbagh and Chowk, and five elevated stations from Thakurganj to Vasantkunj. The project, estimated to cost ₹5,801.05 crore, is expected to be completed within five years from the commencement of construction.
