VFS Global, in consortium with WE Excel Software Pvt. Ltd., has launched Maharashtra’s first Model Sub-Registrar Office (SRO) in Pune, as part of an initiative to modernise property registration services across the state.
The centre was inaugurated on August 13 by Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Minister of Revenue, Government of Maharashtra.
The Pune facility is the first of 60 Model SROs planned across Maharashtra under a five-year contract awarded to the consortium by the Inspector General of Registration (IGR) and Controller of Stamps earlier this year.
As part of the first phase, four more centres are planned in Mumbai, Thane and Nagpur.
The Model SROs are intended to address challenges commonly associated with conventional registration offices, including overcrowding and lengthy waiting periods. The new centres will feature digital infrastructure aimed at enabling end-to-end processing, along with trained service personnel and upgraded citizen amenities.
Facilities at the centres include air-conditioned waiting areas, Wi-Fi connectivity, refreshments and water dispensers, among other services.
The government’s existing registration offices will continue to function alongside the Model SROs. The new centres are being positioned as an optional service for citizens seeking an alternative registration experience.
The rollout is part of efforts to improve the efficiency and convenience of property registration services in Maharashtra through greater use of digital infrastructure and modernised service facilities.
