UCIL plans uranium recovery project using Hindustan Copper tailings in Jharkhand.

UCIL, a public sector undertaking under the Department of Atomic Energy, will set up a recovery plant in Jharkhand to extract uranium from the tailings of state-owned Hindustan Copper, a senior official said recently.

The initiative is expected to strengthen domestic availability of uranium, a strategic mineral used in nuclear power generation and defence applications.

In an interview with PTI, Sanjiv Kumar Singh said that Hindustan Copper has reached an understanding with UCIL under which the copper producer will hand over its tailings for uranium extraction.

The arrangement marks a collaborative effort between the two public sector companies to improve resource utilisation and boost critical mineral supply within India.
