WBSIDC, Mahestalla Garments tie up for garment, textile park

Kolkata: The West Bengal Small Industries Development Corporation (WBSIDC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Mahestalla Garments & Textiles Park Welfare Association to develop a garment and textile park in cluster format at Mahestalla, Chatta and Kalikapur.

“The initial investment will be about Rs 30 crore. WBSIDC will have 11 per cent stake while the association will have 89 per cent stake in the joint venture,” Mr Moinul Hassan, Chairman, WBSIDC, told newspersons here today.

Nearly 250-300 dyeing and bleaching units will set up factories in the proposed park under the guidance of WBSIDC, the association and West Bengal Pollution Control Board. The park, to be developed on 24 acres of land, will be ready for occupation in the next 18 months, Mr Hassan said.

Financial aid

According to him, the Centre is expected to provide financial assistance up to 75 per cent of the investment for development of basic infrastructure including roads, electricity, drainage and water supply systems in the park.

WBSIDC also plans to develop a textile park in Acra on 40 acres of land. “We have around 127 acres of land in Acra. In the first phase we plan to develop a textile park with about 700 dyeing and bleaching units on 40 acres of land. Work is expected to commence in six months time,” Mr Hassan said.

In addition, WBSIDC plans another garment park with a textile and garment training institute in Santoshpur.
