Welspun Renewables commissions 34 MW solar project in Punjab.

Welspun Renewables recently said it has commissioned a 34 MW solar power project in Bhatinda district of Punjab.

'Welspun Renewables has set up its first solar power project - the Bhatinda 34 MW (DC) - in Punjab. This is the largest commissioned solar capacity to come up in the state,' the company said in a statement.

The project, completed in five months, will annually feed 48 million units of clean and emission-free energy to the Punjab state grid for the next 25 years, it said.

Spread across 140 acres, the project will have mitigated 1,331,525 tonnes of CO2 emissions. The company is among the first few to set up a project in Punjab.

'Our 34 MW (DC) solar power plant is the first step in the state in this direction. While powering the state's industries, we will also be working with our neighbouring communities towards sustainable living,' Welspun Renewables Vice-Chairman Vineet Mittal, said.

The company is committed to establishing 11,001 MW of renewable capacities across the country.

'Towards this goal, in the next few years we will be setting up 5 GW capacities, and of this 1 GW will be commissioned well within 2015-16,' the company said in the statement.

The Punjab Government has set a cumulative target of 4200 MW solar power generation capacity.
