Welspun, Waaree Target Rising Gas and Solar Demand Amid U.S. Data Centre Boom.
Indian manufacturers Welspun Corp Ltd and Waaree Energies Ltd are gearing up to capture a share of a rapidly expanding opportunity in the United States, where a huge wave of data-centre construction—fuelled by artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing—is set to drive demand for both natural-gas infrastructure and renewable-energy components.
Welspun Corp is preparing to supply pipes for gas projects, while Waaree Energies is targeting rising demand for solar modules and cells as U.S. utilities and developers race to meet the power needs of new data-centre clusters.
Vipul Mathur, Managing Director and CEO of Welspun Corp, said the U.S. energy landscape is undergoing a “major structural shift” as AI-enabled data centres proliferate. “Apart from the LNG exports that are happening, we are also seeing a shift because of the mushrooming of data centres,” he told investors recently. “These data centres are energy guzzlers. And each data centre requires a huge dedicated power supply, and that power supply requires a huge amount of gas for generating that power… Conservatively, if we look at it, more than 250 data centres are being discussed at this point in time.”
Both companies expect this momentum to translate into multi-billion-dollar opportunities as the U.S. scrambles to build out the energy backbone needed to support the next generation of computing infrastructure.
