"Work is officially underway on the Vadsar bridge as the Vadodara Municipal Corporation begins the initial phase of development."

The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has commenced construction of the Vadsar bridge to ensure uninterrupted connectivity between the city and low-lying residential areas during floods caused by rising water levels in the Vishwamitri river.

Several housing societies, including Casa Residency and Samruddhi Mansion, are located in the affected low-lying zone and are routinely cut off when the river level rises. The road linking the Koteshwar Mahadev temple to these areas often gets submerged, forcing the civic administration to carry out rescue and relief operations for residents. The locality is among the first in the city to lose connectivity even before major flooding occurs elsewhere.

To address the issue on a permanent basis, the VMC proposed the construction of a bridge connecting the temple area with the residential pockets. The project was recently approved by the elected wing of the civic body, following which work has begun.

The bridge, being executed by the VMC’s bridge department at an estimated cost of ₹31 crore, is expected to be completed within a month. The project was taken up on a priority basis after residents were stranded during floods in September last year, when civic officials had to keep rescue teams on standby amid concerns over residents refusing evacuation and the presence of crocodiles in the surrounding area.
