Work on communication projects to begin in Multan

Islamabad: The development work on different high priority communication projects in Multan will start in January 2009, official sources said.

Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani is expected to perform the groundbreaking of these development projects, which were announced by him during his recent visit to Multan.

According to National Highway Authority (NHA), the award of work on two bridges including Head Muhammad Wala Bridge and Aimen Wala Bridge over River Chenab has been finalised. The tenders for the pre-qualification of firms have also been notified and work will be started in mid January.

For Motorway M-4 Faisalabad-Gojra Section, a loan agreement of 180 million US dollars has been signed with Asian Development Bank (ADB) to provide financial assistance for the project.

For the extension of Motorway M-4 from Khanewal to Multan, the alignment proposed by NESPAK has been approved after being connected with the N-5, as directed by the Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani.

The work on the up gradation of Jalalpur Pirwala-Uch section of Multan-Shujjabad-TMP road will also be started in January 2009 as the details of the project have been finalised.
