Work on Eastern rail freight corridor to start today
New Delhi: The construction of a 105-km portion of Eastern rail freight corridor will commence today from New Ganjkhwaja near Mughalsarai to New Karwandia near Sonnagar, which is a part of the Sonnagar-Mughalsarai (127 km) section of the Eastern freight corridor.
The Eastern freight corridor, which is 1,801 km in length, will connect Ludhiana to Dankuni. It will pass via Saharanpur, Khurja, Kanpur, Mughalsarai and Sonnagar and will be single line on the Ludhiana-Khurja portion (426 km) and double line on the remaining part.
The Railways has awarded the construction work for the 105-km stretch to a consortium comprising C&C Constructions and its joint venture partner, BSCPL Infrastructure. The contract value is Rs 781 crore.
“We will do the earthwork for laying the track for 105 km. The Railways has handed over the required land for 35-40 km,” said Mr G.S. Johar, Chairman, C&C Construction.
