Work on Lai Expressway project stopped

Islamabad: The construction work on the Lai Expressway project has been stopped again due to unknown reasons and the heavy machinery has also been removed temporarily from Rialto Chowk expansion project.

According to sources, the construction work near Rialto Chowk had started in the first stage of the project. They said the work would begin again in March. President Pervez Musharraf had inaugurated the Lai Expressway project, which consists of a 22 kilometres long road on both banks of Lai without signal, with an expenditure of Rs 18 billion. All the planning of the project had been finalised and funds had also been released.
