Work on the much-anticipated metro corridor between Millennium City Centre and Cyber City via Old Gurgaon is expected to commence in June, according to officials. The project is set to ease the city’s transit gap and enhance connectivity.
Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar confirmed that authorities are in the final stages of appointing a general consultant for the project, with tenders to be issued shortly. “Coordination among relevant departments is being ensured to resolve any issues regarding metro route alignment. Construction is likely to begin from June,” Kumar said.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini had previously announced that the work would start by May, with a projected completion timeline of four years. The 28.8 km metro corridor, featuring 27 elevated stations, is estimated to cost Rs 5,452 crore. Of this, Rs 869 crore will be funded by the central government, while the Haryana government will contribute Rs 4,556 crore.
Officials from Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) revealed that geotechnical investigation for the first 13 km of the project is complete, with civil, architectural, and electrical work underway. The tender for constructing the depot and the initial segment is expected to be finalized in the coming week, with bids for the remaining corridor to be invited shortly after.
“The tender will be floated after the appointment of a general consultant,” said an official. Additionally, work on the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor is progressing, with its alignment along NH-8 in the city finalized, pending approval from the Union Cabinet.
The RRTS project, originally planned to cross Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road, was revised in August 2023 to run along the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway (NH-8). The updated route, which includes 22 stations, will pass through Cyber City, IFFCO Chowk, and Signature Towers. Key transit hubs at Cyber City, Rajiv Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, Kherki Daula, and Pachgaon will connect with multiple transportation networks, including the Rapid Metro, Gurgaon Metro, ISBT, and the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC), easing long-distance travel and offering commuters several options.
On road infrastructure, the Deputy Commissioner outlined projects aimed at improving connectivity and reducing congestion. Tenders will soon be issued for an elevated road at the Manesar bus terminal and a flyover at Bilaspur Chowk on NH-8. The widening of Jail Road from Sohna Expressway is also in the pipeline, pending approvals from the forest department.
