Works on Nanjundapuram RoB nearing completion.
Works on the much anticipated Nanjundapuram road over bridge (RoB) is nearing completion. Since motorists have already begun to use the bridge and due to works on certain portions of the approach road to the facility not being safe for motoring, Mayor P. Rajkumar visited the site recently and instructed the Corporation officials to make the sections on both sides of the bridge fit for traffic.
Once the rains were over, the Corporation would work with the Highways Department to open the bridge for traffic.
Mr. Rajkumar said that he had spoken to the Highways Department officials for the early completion of service roads too. Once the work was complete, bus service was expected to resume on the stretch.
The State Highways Department is constructing the bridge across the railway line there. A State Highways Department official told The Hindu that two-wheelers have begun to use the flyover to avoid a long detour to Podanur and further to the highway to Pollachi.
The Rs. 12.6-crore project involves construction of a two-lane bridge of 693 metres. It includes a 337.75 metre road on the Ramanathapuram side and 317.26 metre road on the Podanur side. Works started more than two years ago and land acquisition was completed in August last. The works were initially expected to be completed by December 2013 and then by the end of July last.
