WSP lands two airport contracts in Oman.

Canadian-based engineering firm WSP has won two airport-related contracts in Oman.

The first deal is for maintenance and cargo facilities at Muscat Airport and the second is a cargo facility at Salalah Airport. Both airports are currently undergoing expansion work.

WSP director Jim Ratliff, said: 'We are extremely pleased to have won these contracts, delivered by our teams in the UK and Middle East.

'We have been developing our skills addressing the Middle East market for some time now and have established a good market presence for infrastructure and commercial development.

'We will be looking to build on this success through our global counterparts.'

WSP is also believed to have moved into pole position to acquire Parsons Brinckerhoff, a US-based consulting business owned by the UK's Balfour Beatty, for about $1.2bn.

A report by Sky News this week said negotiations between WSP and Balfour Beatty are understood to be at a 'critical stage', with a formal agreement possible in the next 10 days.

UK-based construction giant Carillion is also in talks with Balfour Beatty over a possible merger of the two firms, however two offers by Carillion have thus far been rejected. The firm has until Thursday (21 August) to make an improved offer.
