"Yara India Signs MoU with UP Government to Boost Potato Yield and Quality"
Yara India, a subsidiary of the global crop nutrition firm Yara International, has partnered with the Uttar Pradesh government’s Department of Horticulture and Food Processing to enhance potato yield and quality for farmers.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was formalized by Vinaya Kumar Sharma, Head of Commercial at Yara India, during the 2nd International Conference and Buyer-Seller Meet held in Agra on February 4. The key objective of this partnership is to introduce farmers to emerging digital technologies and equip them with the necessary skills for more efficient and sustainable farming practices, as stated in a Yara statement.
Atul Kumar Singh, Director of the Horticulture and Food Processing Department in Uttar Pradesh, visited Yara’s Knowledge Grow Centre in Agra, which acts as a hub for excellence in farming practices. During the visit, government and company officials engaged with potato farmers and inspected four demonstration potato plots established by Yara.
Sanjiv Kanwar, Managing Director of Yara South Asia, emphasized the collaborative effort's focus on creating an ecosystem that supports farmers' livelihoods while revolutionizing food systems for a healthier future. Kanwar highlighted Yara's commitment to introducing digital innovations, such as the newly revamped FarmCare app, and improving food quality in collaboration with other stakeholders along the value chain.
Singh expressed confidence in the partnership's potential to introduce farmers to cutting-edge digital technologies and innovative solutions, ultimately enhancing crop productivity and quality. He emphasized the role of the Yara Knowledge Grow Centre in Agra as a platform for developing and promoting best farming practices, anticipating significant benefits for farmers from Yara’s agronomists' expertise.
The Knowledge Grow Centre facilitates interactions with the local community through training programs for farmers. Additionally, Yara’s scientists at the centre's research farm work on developing sustainable farming models, innovative solutions, and assessing the viability of new crops and farming techniques in the region.
