Adani Group Targets 1 Billion Tonnes Cargo by 2030 as APSEZ Surpasses 500 Million Tonnes Milestone.

Gautam Adani announced that his conglomerate’s port arm, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), is targeting cargo volumes of 1 billion tonnes by 2030, following the milestone of surpassing 500 million tonnes, highlighting the rapid expansion of India’s largest port operator.

Speaking on the occasion, Adani said APSEZ has grown into an integrated network of 20 ports across India and international locations, establishing itself as a critical enabler of trade and logistics flows. He projected that the group’s logistics and marine services businesses will expand fivefold over the next five years, as India increasingly relies on logistics capacity to drive economic growth.

Adani noted the company’s accelerated growth trajectory, recalling that it took 16 years to reach the first 100 million tonnes of cargo, while the last 200 million tonnes were added in just four years. Organizational reforms, including a shift to a flatter, three-layer structure, are being implemented to improve decision-making and responsiveness at operational levels.

Highlighting the human element behind the achievement, Adani emphasized the contributions of employees and on-ground workers. “Milestones such as these are never just about numbers, but about legacy, the audacity of vision, and the endurance of belief,” he said, reflecting on the company’s philosophy of building organizations both in the mind and in the real world, “moment by moment, brick by brick, hand by hand.”

Recounting the origins of APSEZ at Mundra Port in Gujarat, Adani described the early challenges, including arduous overnight trips through undeveloped terrain in the 1990s, and credited the group’s determination and conviction for transforming vision into reality. He also shared personal anecdotes, including inspiration drawn from a song that became a private anthem during challenging times, reinforcing the belief that one must actively shape destiny.

“APSEZ’s 500 million tonnes milestone is a testament not just to performance, but to the spirit, memories, and perseverance of everyone who walked this journey with us,” he said, describing Mundra as the spark that became the nucleus of the APSEZ network.

This announcement underscores APSEZ’s continued focus on scaling infrastructure in line with India’s rising trade and industrial demand, positioning it for further growth as a global logistics leader.
