Ahmedabad's SVPI Airport Unveils New Cargo Terminal, Quadrupling Capacity.

The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad has unveiled a new, state-of-the-art Integrated Cargo Terminal (ICT), which will significantly boost the airport’s freight handling capabilities. According to a company release recently, the new terminal can process 200,000 tonnes of cargo annually, a four-fold increase from the previous capacity of 50,000 tonnes.

The modern facility, which spans over 20,000 square meters, is equipped with advanced technology to streamline operations and enhance security. The terminal features CCTV surveillance, controlled access, and robust screening systems. The new facility will cater to a broader region, serving cargo needs across Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh.

To ensure efficiency and real-time tracking, the ICT has introduced several innovative features, including Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) at truck gates, Handheld Terminal (HHT) operations, and barcode tracking. A dedicated cold chain zone has been established to maintain the integrity of temperature-sensitive goods, particularly pharmaceuticals. The terminal is designed to handle a wide range of cargo, from e-commerce and automotive parts to valuable goods and perishables. Top international exports from the terminal include engineering goods, garments, and chemicals.

The new facility's design, which includes high dock counts and automated equipment, is expected to improve efficiency and reduce turnaround times, particularly during peak periods.
