Ashok Leyland Bags ₹223-Crore Arbitration Award Against Delhi Transport Corporation.

Ashok Leyland Ltd has secured a partial arbitral award of ₹222.65 crore, along with interest and legal costs, in its long-running dispute with the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

In a regulatory filing recently, the commercial vehicle manufacturer said the dispute arose from buses supplied to DTC between 2009 and 2011 under contracts awarded through a tender floated by the transport utility.

Ashok Leyland initiated arbitration proceedings against DTC in 2013 after raising claims under the contracts. The company had originally sought compensation of about ₹445 crore, while DTC had filed a counterclaim of ₹136 crore.

The arbitral tribunal awarded Ashok Leyland ₹222.65 crore as a partial award and also granted interest and legal costs. It dismissed DTC's counterclaim in its entirety, the company said.

The award marks a significant development in the decade-long contractual dispute between the automaker and the state-run transport corporation.
