"BHEL Secures 1,600 MW Thermal Power Project from Damodar Valley Corporation"

State-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) announced on Monday that it has been awarded a 1,600 MW thermal power project by Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). The coal-based project, known as the Koderma Supercritical Thermal Power Project (STPP), will be established in the Koderma district of Jharkhand on an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) basis.

The project, which involves two 800 MW units, was secured through an International Competitive Bidding (ICB) process. It will be situated next to DVC's existing 2x500 MW units, which were also set up by BHEL.

According to BHEL, this project marks DVC's first thermal power project of this scale and continues the company's long-standing collaboration with DVC. BHEL has previously installed over 80 percent of DVC's coal-based power stations in Jharkhand and West Bengal.

The scope of work for the new project includes supply, erection, and commissioning, as well as civil works. Key equipment for the project will be sourced from BHEL’s manufacturing facilities.

BHEL, one of India’s largest engineering and manufacturing firms, is known for its extensive experience in the power sector and its significant role in the country's infrastructure development.
