Centre Greenlights ₹2,787 Crore Infra Boost for Amaravati Capital Projects.
The Union government recently granted in-principle approval for two significant infrastructure projects within the capital city of Amaravati. The Department of Expenditure under the Ministry of Finance issued separate memos, giving the nod for the construction of a common central secretariat and a general pool residential accommodation for central government employees.
The Ministry of Finance's approvals come after accepting proposals submitted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Both projects will be executed by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD). The general pool residential accommodation project is estimated to cost ₹1,329 crore, while the common central secretariat building has an estimated outlay of ₹1,458 crore. These projects, initially proposed in 2018, had faced delays due to the uncertainty surrounding the capital's status over the past five years.
With a combined cost of ₹2,787 crore, the Union government's green light for these projects signifies a major push for Amaravati's development. Union Minister of State, Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for their approvals. He remarked that these approvals underscore the NDA government's unwavering commitment to building Amaravati and strongly reaffirm the vision of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan to establish a world-class capital for Andhra Pradesh.
