Centre takes-up study for linking 3 states industrial corridor

Bangalore: The proposed three-State industrial corridor linking Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai has been taken up for a feasibility study, the Union Commerce Minister, Mr Kamal Nath, has said.

He was responding to suggestions from the Karnataka’s Commissioner for Industrial Development, Dr Rajkumar Khatri.

According to Dr Khatri, Japanese majors including Toyota had shown interest in making fresh investments along such a corridor that could run 1,000 km. The project would be similar to the Delhi-Mumbai corridor and be taken up as a public-private venture.

It would spur huge economic benefits to the three States and some 20 towns that would fall in its ambit, he said.

Dr Khatri suggested a dedicated Bangalore-Mangalore container train service, now that the rail route was resumed. Bangalore, a key pharma export hub, should also have a regional drug controllerate office, he said.
