Chandy promises 6 acres for water project.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that the government would consider the request for six acres for a water supply augmentation scheme for Thrikkakara and Kalamassery municipalities.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the Cochin Children's Science City in Kalamassery recently.

He said that the large water reservoir on Kinfra land adjacent to the Science City could be used for leisure activities provided no activities polluted the water body.

He also said that acute care must be taken to ensure the safety of the children using the water body.

The Chief Minister also laid the foundation for a bus stand in Kalamassery, near the Government Medical College in the presence of a large gathering of people and people's representatives.

The Science City has come up on nearly six acres given by Kinfra.

The first phase of the project cost Rs. 6.5 crore. The entire project is estimated to cost Rs. 25 crore.

Minister for public work V. K. Ebrahim Kunju, Benny Behnan, MLA and former MP and district secretary of the CPI (M) P. Rajeev were among those who spoke at the inaugural function.

Jamal Manakkadan, chairman of Kalamssery municipality thanked everyone for their help in realising the project.

It was Mr. Rajeev, who initially mooted the idea of a science city and helped with money from the MP fund and also roped in former MPs H. K. Dua and Ashok S. Ganguly to help with the project. G. C. Gopala Pillai, managing director, Kinfra also spoke at the occasion.
