Chennai’s Broken Bridge Area to Feature Adventure Zones, Cafes, and Civic Spaces Under CMRL-HUDCO Project.

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has signed a contract with the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) aimed at beautifying and creating vibrant public spaces in the Broken Bridge area of Adyar. The project focuses on the area beneath the MRTS line near Indira Nagar Railway Station and the Velachery Rail Over Bridge.

The plan envisions transforming the historic Broken Bridge area, covering around 14,120 square meters, into a landmark waterfront destination featuring an adventure and leisure zone, beachfront cafes, and a health loop.

Additionally, the project includes proposals to enhance the spaces below the MRTS line near Indira Nagar Railway Station (approximately 6,176 sq m) and beneath the Velachery Rail Over Bridge (about 9,270 sq m near Velachery MRTS station). These areas will be developed into multifunctional civic spaces with dynamic lighting, retail outlets, and children’s play zones.

The contract was awarded to HUDCO at a cost of ₹53 lakh. According to CMRL, this agreement marks a significant step forward in the beautification and modernization of Chennai’s urban landscape.
