ADB Approves ₹975 Crore Loan to Boost Tripura's Industrial Infrastructure.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has sanctioned a loan of ₹975.26 crore to significantly upgrade infrastructure across nine industrial areas in Tripura, a senior official confirmed recently.

Nabadal Banik, Chairman of the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation (TIDC), stated that the project will encompass a wide range of developments. This includes the construction of new industrial sheds, power substations, underground electric lines, fire service stations, and 34 new roads. "The ADB has sanctioned a loan amounting to ₹975.26 crore to build infrastructure for development in nine industrial belts in Tripura. The implementation is underway," Banik told PTI. Key industrial zones such as Bodhjungnagar, R K Nagar, Dukli, and AN Nagar are among those slated for development under this initiative.

Land Allocations and Industry Revival Efforts

In a bid to expand the state's industrial footprint, Banik revealed that the state government has provided additional land for development at Santirbazar in South Tripura (127 acres) and Fatikroy in Unakoti district (28 acres). "The TIDC has already begun demarcation work to undertake infrastructure building in the two new areas. We are ensuring that no land allocated for industries remains unused for a long period of time," he added.

The TIDC has also taken steps to reclaim 28 acres of land from 24 previously inactive industrial units, signaling a proactive approach to optimize land utilization. "New entrepreneurs are coming up to set up industries in the state," Banik noted, highlighting a renewed interest in industrial ventures.

Push for Plywood and Rubber-Based Industries

The corporation is also actively promoting the plywood industry within the state. "Currently, two plywood-making units are operational in the state, and seven more are in the pipeline," Banik confirmed.

Tripura boasts approximately 110,000 hectares of rubber plantation, with about 10,000 hectares classified as senile. To leverage this resource, "We have taken an initiative to promote rubber wood-based plywood. If these projects are implemented, Tripura will be one of the leading states in plywood manufacturing," Banik concluded, envisioning a significant boost to the state's industrial output and economic growth.
