CM launches Rs. 94-crore health projects.
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa commissioned health projects estimated at Rs. 94.72 crore in various parts of the State through videoconferencing recently.
The projects include installation of equipment, including MRI and CT scan in the district headquarters hospital in Ooty and government health centres in Coonoor, Kotagiri and Gudalur in the Nilgiris. The health facilities in the district have been upgraded with more equipment and improved infrastructure.
An MRI scan was installed in a hospital in Ooty at a cost of Rs. 5 crore and other hospitals in the district have been upgraded at a cost of Rs. 3.90 crore with CT scan machines.
Government medical college hospitals in Coimbatore and Tiruchi have also been upgraded. An operating microscope worth Rs. 1.44 crore has been installed in the Coimbatore hospital. A hostel for men has come up.
At the KAP Viswanatham Medical College in Tiruchi, examination halls, residential facilities for doctors, trainers and health workers have been built at a cost of Rs. 11.98 crore.
The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in the district has been provided with accommodation for sanitary workers. The Tirunelveli Medical College has been equipped with dedicated halls for microbiology research centre.
Buildings for PHCs
Chief Minister also opened 18 new buildings for primary health centres at an estimated Rs. 6.48 crore.
In 44 PHCs, buildings for nursing quarters and maternity centres in 28 PHCs have been constructed.
Ms. Jayalalithaa commissioned 25 ambulances for 108 emergency services. With this addition, the State will have a total of 752 vehicles on road. According to a release from GVK EMRI 108, the State now has 66 neo-natal ambulances, the largest fleet in the country. The State now has 78 four-wheel drive vehicles and 607 basic life support ambulances.
