Coal India Invests ₹25,000 Crore in 4.5 GW Renewable Energy for AM Green.

Coal India Invests ₹25,000 Crore in 4.5 GW Renewable Energy for AM Green.

State-owned coal behemoth Coal India (CIL) is embarking on a significant diversification into the renewable energy sector, announcing plans to establish 4.5 GW of green power projects with an estimated investment of ₹25,000 crore. This ambitious undertaking aims to supply carbon-free electricity to the upcoming green ammonia production facilities of AM Green, primarily located in Kandla, Gujarat, or potentially other sites.

AM Green, a venture backed by the founders of the prominent Hyderabad-based Greenko Group, stands as a leading force in India's renewable energy landscape. This collaboration marks a pivotal moment for both entities, as CIL seeks to leverage its vast land resources and infrastructure for clean energy generation, while AM Green secures a dedicated and substantial supply of renewable power for its green ammonia ambitions.

The two companies, Coal India (CIL) and AM Green Ammonia (India), have formalized their intent through a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU). Industry sources suggest that this agreement could potentially represent one of the world's largest renewable energy contracts dedicated to powering green hydrogen and ammonia production. This strategic alliance underscores India's growing commitment to green energy transition and the development of a robust green hydrogen ecosystem.
