Cummins India opens new unit at Pune
Pune: The Industrial Engine Business Unit of Cummins India Ltd (CIL) inaugurated its new integrated manufacturing facility at the company’s Kothrud campus at Pune.
The new unit built with an investment of $20 million, will specialise in assembling, testing and up-fit of high horsepower engines as per customer requirements. It will also manufacture both mechanical and electronic KV series engines ranging from 700 HP to 2,250 HP to meet the demands of power generation, marine, construction, mining and locomotive applications. The products manufactured here will service major customers worldwide, and the first batch of KV engines from the new unit were despatched today.
Inaugurating the facility, Mr Anant Talaulicar, Chairman and Managing Director, CIL, said, “Our existing manufacturing plant at Kothrud has been meeting the global demand for K38 and K50 series engines for five years. With this investment, we have significantly expanded our ability to service global customer requirements.”
Mr Vikram Jaisinghani, Vice-President, Cummins India Ltd - Engine and Industrial Business Unit, said, “This new facility built on the Kothrud campus was put up in a record time of 10 months from the day of its ground breaking in May 2007. It has been built to adhere to strict environment and safety norms, and will facilitate indigenisation of new products.”
