Decks cleared for Tummidihatti barrage.

The Maharashtra Government recently gave in-principle consent to the barrage to be built across Pranahita river by Telangana at Tummidihatti in Adilabad district, without any submergence in the upper riparian State. The full reservoir level (FRL) of the re-sized barrage is likely to be 148 meters.

The agreement came at a meeting between the Ministers, officials and engineers of Irrigation Departments of the two States at Nagpur. According to official sources, Maharashtra, however, did not give its nod for the barrage planned at Medigadda across Godavari river in Karimnagar district immediately stating that it would take a decision after studying the proposal thoroughly.

The two sides agreed to have Pranahita inter-State board meeting here on December 29 and 30, during when the technical aspects too would be discussed to thrash out contentious issues on Medigadda barrage.

Irrigation Ministers of Telangana and Maharashtra T. Harish Rao and Girsh Mahajan, respectively, Mr. Mahajan’s Deputy Vijay Shivtare, Principal Secretaries of the two States S.K. Joshi and Satish Gavai, Advisor R. Vidyasagar Rao, Engineer-in-Chief C. Muralidhar and several other officials from the two sides participated in the meeting.
