Government Announces Modernisation of Nagpur and Amravati Bus Stations.
The Maharashtra government has launched a major initiative to strengthen public transport in Nagpur and Amravati districts, with a focus on modernising bus stations, expanding the fleet, and improving passenger amenities.
Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule directed officials to implement the upgrades during a review meeting at the state legislature in Mumbai on Thursday, which was attended by Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik. The discussions centered on enhancing infrastructure at bus stations, increasing bus services, and ensuring smoother travel for commuters.
Bawankule stressed that passengers should not face inconvenience during the summer months and instructed authorities to ensure buses stop at designated halts, particularly during examination periods when students rely heavily on public transport. He noted that funds could be allocated via the District Planning and Development Council if required for developing bus stops and related facilities.
Highlighting plans for urban transport, Bawankule said the government is considering the establishment of the Nagpur Metropolitan Transport Company to streamline city transport planning. A detailed proposal is expected by the end of April, while work at the Amravati depot is targeted for completion by the end of March.
Expressing concern over the condition of Ganeshpeth bus station in Nagpur, he ordered immediate improvements, including installation of 200 steel chairs, five water coolers, and a 50-bed dormitory for passengers. The station’s Hirkani room for lactating women is also set to be properly equipped.
Meanwhile, renovation of Katol bus station and construction at Kondhali have been completed, with projects at Hingna, Ramtek, and Umred currently in progress.
This initiative is part of the state government’s broader plan to modernise public transport and enhance commuter experience across Maharashtra.
