Helmand to get 3 uplift projects
Lashkargah: Three development projects were inaugurated in Greshk district of the restive Helmand province.
Helmand governor Gulab Mangal opened a new school, the Eid Prayer Mosque and a hall built inside the local municipality in the Greshk town.
The governor said $1.8 million was spent on the three projects funded by the British-led Provincial Reconstruction Team based in the province.
Dozens of local tribal elders and ordinary people also attended the opening ceremony.
Using the opportunity, the governor called on the tribal elders to try open schools shut down by the Taliban in their areas.
He also urged farmers to stop cultivating poppies and find a legal and lawful alternative livelihood for themselves.
The tribal elders and local residents present in the ceremony promised that they will support the government in restoring security to the badly war-ravaged province.
Haji Sarfaraz, an influential tribal elder, thanked the governor for his trip and attention to Greshk district.
He said his people will help local security forces ensure security in the area.
Governor Mangal also roamed in Greshk town speaking to some shopkeepers for their problems and suggestions on security.
