Indian team visits Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower project

Lahore: A four-member Indian delegation headed by Orunga Nathon, Indian Commissioner for Indus Water Treaty has reached Pakistan for inspection of Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower project with 969 MW generation capacity being constructed in Muzaffarabad, Azad Kashmir.

Syed Jamaat Ali Shah, Commissioner Indus Water Treaty Pakistan, Hasnain Afzal, General Manager Neelum Jhelum Hydropower project and other officials received the delegation. The Indian delegation will stay in Pakistan for four days. Syed Jamaat Ali Shah, Commissioner Indus Water Treaty Pakistan said that Pakistan had already expressed strong reservations over the construction of Kishan Ganga Dam in the occupied Kashmir which is violative to the international rules.

In a meeting held in New Delhi, Pakistan had already lodged its protest over this project, he added. To a question, Jamaat Ali Shah said that Pakistan would lose 28 percent availability of water for the Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower project because of present design of Kishan Ganga Dam.

He further said that after inspection of Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower project by Indian officials, final round of dialogue between Indian and Pakistan would took place on 28th August in Islamabad. We will also approach the International Court for justice, if the talks fail, he said.
