Japanese Company Shibaura Completes ₹275 Crore Expansion in Chennai.

Shibaura Machine India, a Japanese company, has inaugurated its second manufacturing unit at Chembarambakkam, near Chennai. The company, which manufactures injection molding machines used in the production of auto components, electrical and household furniture, packaging, and medical equipment, has invested ₹275 crore in the expansion, including ₹50 crore for land. The expansion project (Unit-2) began in November 2022, boosting Shibaura’s capacity from 1,200 to 4,000 machines.

Originally part of the Toshiba group, Shibaura entered the Indian market in 2012 by acquiring a 100% stake in L&T Plastics Machinery Ltd., which was established in 1990. After becoming independent of Toshiba in 2017, the company was renamed Shibaura Machine India Pvt Ltd.

During a press conference, company officials announced that the new unit would expand Shibaura’s vendor base from approximately 150 to 200 vendors. M. Kumar, Managing Director of Shibaura Machine India, stated that the company plans to "add new products and increase our customer base" with this expansion.
