PM Modi to Inaugurate Bengaluru Metro's Yellow Line and Lay Foundation for Phase-3 on August 10.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially inaugurate the long-awaited Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line on August 10, 2025. The 19.15 km line, which connects RV Road to Bommasandra and includes 16 stations, was built at a cost of ₹5,056.99 crore. The inauguration will be a major boost to the city’s public transportation network.
During the same event, PM Modi is also scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the ambitious Bengaluru Metro Phase-3. This new phase will cover 44.65 km and is estimated to cost ₹15,611 crore, as announced by Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, on social media platform X.
The Yellow Line's opening follows several delays. Initially slated for completion in 2021, the project faced multiple postponements due to difficulties in procuring rolling stock from the Chinese firm CRRC. To overcome this challenge, CRRC partnered with Titagarh Rail Systems Limited in Kolkata to expedite the delivery. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has since received three train sets.
The new line is expected to significantly improve connectivity to key areas of the city, including Central Silk Board, HSR Layout, and Electronics City, providing a major relief to commuters in Bengaluru's bustling IT corridors. The readiness of the line was recently confirmed by BMRCL Managing Director, Dr. J Ravishankar, following a final inspection.
