Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) is exploring the possibility of extending its Phase II Pink Line to the Kizhakkambalam region, where Infopark plans to establish its Phase III campus. Officials from Infopark have confirmed that initial discussions with KMRL regarding this potential extension have already taken place.
The ongoing construction of the Pink Line aims for completion by 2026, with the current route planned to end near Infopark’s Phase I campus. Infopark CEO Sushanth Kurunthil emphasized the importance of metro connectivity for the upcoming integrated township, which is expected to be one of Kerala’s largest infrastructure projects.
“We expect that at least two lakh people will be employed at the township, with an additional four lakh associated with the campus. Transportation facilities will be crucial,” Kurunthil said. He noted that KMRL has indicated a willingness to consider extending the line to serve the new campus.
Further talks on the extension are expected to proceed after the land pooling process for the new campus in Kizhakkambalam panchayat, Kunnathunadu taluk, is finalized. “We are hopeful that the Metro extension project will advance alongside the land pooling process,” the CEO added.
The Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) has already identified vacant plots, including uncultivated paddy fields near Wonderla Amusement Park, roughly 2 kilometers from the Phase II campus, as the site for Infopark Phase III.
Currently, the planned length of the Phase II Pink Line is 11.2 kilometers. The proposed extension will not only connect the new campus but also improve metro access to the existing Phase II Infopark campus.
