Kolkata Metro Nears Airport Connectivity with Successful Trial.
Kolkata Metro Railway has successfully completed another crucial trial run on the Yellow Line, connecting the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (Jai Hind Biman Bandar) with Noapara station. This significant step brings the city closer to realizing enhanced metro connectivity between the airport and Kolkata's bustling northern suburbs.
The trial, conducted on Monday, was overseen by Metro Railway General Manager P Uday Kumar Reddy, who was present for the smooth and successful operation between Jai Hind Biman Bandar and Noapara metro stations. Reddy also took the opportunity to personally inspect the readiness of the Jai Hind Biman Bandar Metro station.
"This stretch, once commissioned, would be a revolutionary step in providing a modern transport system to the people of Kolkata and suburbs to reach the airport," Reddy stated, highlighting the transformative impact this new line will have on urban mobility.
This isn't the first successful trial on this route; the initial trial run between Noapara and Jai Hind Biman Bandar station was successfully conducted earlier this year, on January 25.
The 7.04 km stretch between Noapara and Bimanbandar includes two intermediate stops at Dumdum Cantonment and Jessore Road. The line features a mix of both underground and elevated viaduct sections, showcasing the engineering prowess involved in its construction.
While the Metro Railway spokesperson confirmed the completion of the stretch, they did not provide a specific timeframe for the commencement of passenger services. The next crucial step involves an inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS). Once the CRS grants a green signal, services on this vital route will officially begin.
