Lenovo Starts AI Server Production in India, Opens R&D Lab in Bengaluru.

Beijing-based tech giant Lenovo announced on Tuesday that its manufacturing plant in Puducherry has begun producing AI-powered servers, with an annual capacity of 50,000 enterprise servers and 2,400 high-end GPU units. The Puducherry plant will cater to both domestic and international markets, with over 60% of production destined for export across the Asia-Pacific region.

In addition to ramping up AI server production, Lenovo revealed plans to establish a new research and development (R&D) lab in Bengaluru, its fourth globally. The lab will focus on advancing AI and technology innovations, further bolstering India's role as a key innovation hub.

"This development marks a significant step toward achieving both Lenovo’s and the Indian government’s ‘AI for All’ vision," said Amar Babu, President of Lenovo Asia Pacific. He added that the company is committed to expanding its global manufacturing footprint and leveraging Indian talent to drive technology R&D.

The Puducherry plant will manufacture five key products, including three rack-mounted AI servers and two flagship 8-way GPU servers, solidifying Lenovo’s presence in the enterprise AI market.
