In a groundbreaking collaboration, Lubrizol, a renowned global leader in specialty chemicals, and Grasim Industries, a flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, have officially commenced the construction of a groundbreaking CPVC resin plant in Gujarat. The facility's inauguration marks the commencement of the first phase of this ambitious project, which aims to establish a substantial production capacity of 100,000 tonnes of CPVC resin at the Vilayat site in Gujarat.
This monumental plant, strategically located on Grasim Industries' premises, is set to become the world's largest single-site CPVC resin production facility. The project's primary objective is to cater to the surging demand for CPVC (Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride) in piping applications not only within India but also across regions including Nepal, Bangladesh, and Indonesia.
The innovative technology behind this state-of-the-art plant will be powered by Lubrizol's advanced CPVC resin manufacturing expertise, coupled with Grasim's proficiency in delivering high-quality CPVC materials.
To further bolster its presence in the region, Lubrizol is making significant strides by increasing its existing CPVC compound manufacturing capacity at the Dahej facility in Gujarat. This expansion, along with the Vilayat project, will play a pivotal role in meeting the anticipated annual growth of CPVC demand in India, estimated to be around 10-12 percent.
As a testament to Lubrizol's commitment to the Indian market, plans for establishing a research and development center at the Dahej site are underway. This initiative aims to address the evolving needs of the market and foster innovation.
The first phase of the Vilayat resin plant and the additional line in Dahej are slated to be operational by early 2025. These ambitious projects are expected to create over 4,000 direct and indirect job opportunities, bolstering economic growth in the region.
In addition to the industrial expansion, Lubrizol is setting up a Global Capability Centre in India to support regional growth and enhance collaboration among its employees. The company anticipates adding 150 to 200 new employees in the coming year at this location.
Scott Mold, General Manager of Lubrizol TempRite, expressed the company's commitment to becoming the largest integrated supplier of CPVC compound and services in India. He emphasized that the investment in India would ensure Lubrizol's ability to meet the growing demand in the country and enhance access to clean and safe drinking water for millions globally.
This groundbreaking endeavor by Lubrizol and Grasim Industries not only underscores their commitment to the Indian market but also positions them as key players in the global CPVC industry, poised to address the growing demand for advanced piping solutions.
