Mohali Initiates Infrastructure Upgrade in Phase 11.
Work has commenced on a significant infrastructure upgrade project in Phase 11 of Mohali, focusing on improving roads through premix laying and enhancing stormwater drainage systems. The initiative, launched by Mayor Jeeti Sidhu, specifically targets ward numbers 20 and 21 with an initial budget of ₹35 lakh for the road and drainage upgrade components.
Speaking at the launch event, Mayor Sidhu emphasised the critical need for the roadwork. "The roads were in dire need of repair, and the application of premix will significantly enhance their condition," he stated, adding that this project is part of the municipal corporation's "broader vision to improve roads across Mohali." Senior deputy mayor Amreek Singh Somal was also present, lending his support to the development effort.
Addressing a persistent problem for residents, the Mayor also announced a major investment to tackle waterlogging during the monsoon season. A new pipeline system, budgeted at ₹2 crore, will be installed to ensure more efficient drainage of rainwater.
"Residents have lived in fear during the rainy season, worrying about water entering their homes. This new pipeline will offer much-needed relief," Sidhu commented. The planned drainage line will channel stormwater from the control pump, via the temple and further to Jagatpura, directing it into the main drain located behind Baba White House.
Mayor Sidhu indicated that this comprehensive plan aims to resolve not only rainwater accumulation but also existing sewer overflow problems in the area. "We are committed to ensuring that no resident suffers from water-related issues again," he affirmed, stating that private assistance would be sought if necessary to manage emergencies.
In related community engagement efforts, the Congress party has opened an office in the area. Mayor Sidhu, who highlighted his long-standing association of over 35 years with the residents of Phase 11, reiterated his commitment to addressing their concerns. "The people here are like family to me, and ensuring their well-being is my foremost duty," he said.
The commencement of these projects, with a combined announced investment of ₹2.35 crore for the specific initiatives detailed, marks a step forward in Mohali's urban infrastructure development, promising better roads and improved living conditions by tackling critical drainage issues in Phase 11.
