NTDC completes 500 KV substation, transmission lines

Lahore: National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) has completed the extension work on 500 KV substations located at Muzaffargarh and Gatti along with construction of 280 Kilometer long 500 KV transmission line between the two substations at a cost of equivalent to Rs 5.60 billion.

The transmission line has been commissioned and is transmitting electricity from South to North in the National Grid. The project has been implemented through two different packages. Package - I includes the extension of 500 KV Muzaffargarh and Gatti substations, while the package - II comprises construction of 280 kilometer long 500 KV Single Circuit (Quard Bundle) transmission line between Muzaffargarh and Gatti substations.

The project aims at reinforcing Multan/Muzaffargarh - North transmission interface. This interface is very vital in transferring the thermal power from South to major load centres in North. The bulk of power from South to North has to be transmitted during canal closure period and low water months when there is minimum hydel generation. This interface will help disperse 2,093 MW electricity of thermal plants located in Muzaffargarh area. It is pertinent to mention that the six thermal units at Muzaffargarh generate 1,373 MW of electricity, while two power stations installed at Lal Pir by AES and Pak Gen produce a total power of 720 MW.
