Oil India Expects Mozambique LNG Project to Restart by Year-End.

State-run Oil India Ltd. expects development of the $20-billion Mozambique liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, operated by TotalEnergies, to resume by the end of this year. The company holds a stake in the project, which has been on hold since 2021 after Islamic State-linked militants launched a deadly attack near the site, prompting TotalEnergies to declare force majeure.

“With improved security conditions, the project is expected to restart in the second half of 2025 and is well-positioned to meet the growing demand of the Indian gas market,” Oil India Chairman Ranjit Rath said at the company’s annual shareholder meeting on Thursday.

The restart of the Mozambique LNG project is critical for India’s energy security strategy, particularly as the country ramps up efforts to expand natural gas consumption in its energy mix.
